ATF Winter Uniforms: Both garments were copied directly from original examples- the designs and the details were duplicated. The outer fabric is 100% rayon, custom woven from original swatches and the specs in the Richardson Report from 1945. The cloth isn't similar to WWII fabric- it's identical. Original parkas have a somewhat peculiar look and feel- these have it. Both sides are treated with a PFOA free DWR (durable water repellent finish) that works well against freezing rain and sleet.

For insulation we used the heaviest polar fleece available (400 gsm) which is nearly the same physical weight and feel as the recycled wool used in WWII. The thermal qualities are equal (or better), it kept the cost down and it's not visible anywhere.

Color: For decades collectors have referred to the color of these uniforms as "mouse gray" but on originals it's so variable with many examples being more fieldgray or a shade of green that newer references now prefer the term "monotone". Our color came from the original Kopfhaube below.

on an overcast day
In bright sunlight it appears cement gray, but when the sky is overcast or in ambient lighting it shifts to a gray-green. My three originals here are all notably different from one another and our reproduction color falls squarely in the middle of them all, being closest to the hood in the center.

Sizing: Both garments are made with plenty of extra room to allow for them to fit over the service uniform. The run slightly long to allow for shrinkage (see below.)

Washing: Hand wash cold/ hang dry only. (If hung over a boot or shoe dryer, they will dry in about 24 hours). The problem with using machines is that the tumbling can damage or knock off buttons and it tends to cause the insulation to shift.

Shrinkage: The sleeves and inseams will shrink 2" in length, and the body of the parka will lose 3" in length. However, that much was added to the pattern to allow for shrinkage.
