Refurbished original WWII German M42 steel helmets. We have taken WWII helmet shells, had the old paint stripped off, then refinished them with flat, fieldgray enamel- the color was matched to a mint original. The paint is hardened in a paint oven, and we have applied a very light texture that closely mimics the aluminum oxide used by the Germans.
Then we refit them with brand new liners and chinstraps from Europe. The split pins and washers that hold the liners are also reproductions, copied from originals and marked "D&C".
The helmets in this listing are all shell size 66. The size is the inside circumference of the helmet in centimeters. This size shell can be fitted with either a size 58 or size 59 liner. Choose the size in the dropdown box.
Notes:
Bigger size liners? Nope. Larger (or smaller sizes) cannot be installed in these shells as they physically won't fit! Yes we are 100% certain.
Maker codes or batch numbers: We do not have these sorted by maker code and/ or batch number. Many of the stamps are very faint and difficult to read.
Are we sure they are original? Yes. Besides knowing the difference, and despite the reproduction M42's being stamped "ET66", those actually measure 65cm inside. Thus, the European size 66 liners won't fit in them at all.
Blemishes are possible: These helmets are 80+ years old and all have seen use. Small dents, dings or other evidence of use is possible. All are in very good to excellent shape, but they were not stored in an airtight, foam rubber lined vault waiting for a discriminating enthusiast to beckon in the 21st Century. Likewise, there could be a scuff, small dribble or chip in the paint. If such atrocities will inspire outrage, don't order one of them.
