Product Description

Top rate reproduction of the WW2 Palm pattern camouflage helmet covers. Despite the smocks being relatively common, this is one of the rarest of all helmet cover patterns both in period photos and with known surviving original examples numbering in the range of a dozen.

Our palm camouflage may be the only reproduction made with the correct 50cm repeat and no added, fictitious artwork. The design and color were taken directly from authentic examples as was the pattern for the helmet cover itself. The fabric is custom woven to the same spec as WWII with fine yarn and high thread count.

The few original palm covers are all of the early design which we have christened "M38" for simpler identification. The main difference between these and later covers is that the springs are hand tacked at the top, rather than attached with small strips of fabric. This leaves the rectangular spring covers at the top and gives them a slightly more pronounced pucker.

We assemble the covers with one or more of the small parts from another shade of palm camo to more closely replicate the traits of the originals. These covers are assembled here in our shop and all are inspected and test fitted to original helmet shells to insure proper fit. We opted not to have them sewn overseas due to the fact that there are at least a dozen ways to jack up a cover to the point it won't fit on anything.

Sizes: Originals came in three sizes, numbered 1-3. We offer only 2 and 3 since size 1 is tiny and the demand is nil.
Size 2: Will fit original shells in sizes 62 or 64. It also works well on the reproduction M42's we sell.
Size 3: Works well on original size 66, 68 and 70 shells. They will likely fit the IMA and Reddick 68 shells (which are larger than originals.)
