Product Description
Reproductions of the early or first style of the magazine pouches for the MP38 and MP40 submachine guns. These hold six 30 round magazines, plus a small pocket for the loading tool.
The early production pouches primarily in that the D-ring to attach to the Y-straps was sewn into the upper outside corner of each pouch. Starting sometime in 1942 the D-rings were moved about 1/3 of the way down the pouch affixed to a short strap.
Surviving original examples of the early pouches are much more difficult to find than the later type. Today, one most often finds them in gray or fieldgray canvas although olive green, dark gray and field blue types can occasionally be encountered as well. These pouches were used until the end of WWII.
Known makers of this pattern of pouch include
Max Oswald Lederwaren u. Reiseartikel Fabrik (code evg)-
but most are unmarked or illegible.
Original early MP40 Pouches
These reproductions were copied from a pair of my originals- and we supplied the patterns and specifications for them. All leather parts and hand sewn with linen cord and the canvas is sewn with cotton thread. The design is totally correct- the flaps are the correct width and overlap the top of each cell 2-3cm, the magazines fit, and they take a slight pull to close- which then prevents them from accidentally popping open.
These fit 32rd. MP38 and MP40 magazines!
For more information and photos of originals see:
The original pouches page on the Maschinenpistole 40 website
FJM44's MP38. u. 40 pouch reference page
My originals lack any discernible maker marks- hence these are unmarked as well.
