Reproduction of the first style magazine pouches issued with the Mkb42/ MP43/MP44 assault rifles. Designed in late 1942 or early 1943, these pouches had a single flap to cover all three cells. The magazines in the outer cells tended to fall out and they corners of them wore holes in the canvas of the flaps. Additionally, these pouches oriented the magazines such that they curve outward from one's crotch, which was uncomfortable, especially when trying to kneel.
After complaints from the troops, a new design with reinforced, individual flaps for each cell was developed, and the magazines were turned the opposite direction.
These pouches appear to have been issued in relatively large numbers- among troops armed with assault rifles, this model represents roughly half of what one finds in period photos. In several pictures, the soldiers are wearing just one pouch.
Our reproductions were, again, made with patterns I made from originals. I currently have one mis-matched pair of Mkb pouches which are one of the most difficult to find of all WWII weapon accessories.
The fieldgray canvas was dyed to match original fabric, all leather fittings are hand sewn with linen cord and the canvas is stitched with cotton thread. The snaps on the loader and spare parts pockets are Prym.
Fit: These are specifically made for the standard 30 round magazines used in all variations of the Mkb42, MP43, MP44 and STG44 as well as the VG 1-5 Volksgewehr.) Yes the aftermarket MP44 mags fit. We have heard of no problems with the .22 ATI GSG STG44 mags either although I do not have one to try.
No other magazines have worked- AR15 or AK47 magazines DO NOT fit.
