US Uniforms Main Page

Historical Notes
The WWII Mackinaw is a carry over of a WWI design of the same name. Sometimes called a "Jeep Coat", they are a heavy, wool lined coat with a cotton shell. Easier to move in than the wool overcoat, these were popular with US Army personnel in all theaters during cold weather.
Early and pre-War models were made from heavy canvas duck fabric, but they were rather stiff and uncomfortable. Early in the War, the shell fabric was changed to lighter weight cotton twill or cotton poplin which were used on Tanker and M41 Jackets respectively.

Originals exist in all three fabrics and a wide array of shades. Curiously, and ominously for khakifiends, the early production (1938-42) jackets tend to be pea green. Most early to mid-war (1942-43) examples are od #3 (khaki) and those made in 1944 and '45 are od#7 (naughty green).

I can find no specific information on "who" was issued these or why (as opposed to other winter coats), but original photographs show a scattering of them in use with all Army troops. Air Corps, infantry, artillery, engineers, yes, even paratroopers. Officers and enlisted men both wore them.

Comparision to a near mint condition original.

Please remember that photo editing and your monitor resolution will affect color. The color of the uniform in these photos may not be a perfect match to the actual product. Our uniforms are the correct, WWII olive drab #3 color. We are VERY certain that our colors are correct, even if you are not.
Mackinaw Coat
Reproduction Mackinaw coats. These are "museum quality". I know, these are not the most exciting or glamorous uniform, but when one comes out this close to the real thing, it's pretty cool. The weight, feel, color and fit are excellent. Nearly everyone who saw the first sample mistook it for an unissued original. The lining is heavy, 100% wool and the shell is 100% cotton twill. Both colors were matched to the most typical original samples I could find. The od#3 shell should be pleasing to all but the most color blind of khakifiends. The buttons are a perfect match to the original and the belt buckles are original. Spec labels are now made from a more realistic fabric and are very close to the period ones.

Pattern: I have managed to acquire every size original Mackinaw from 36-46, in unissued and unmodified condition. These fit correctly. Other reproductions feature puckered shoulders, bell-shaped bodies and sleeves that fit like a condom. This is not the case with ours.
These are the best reproduction Mackinaws period. If you disagree, just send it back.

These Jackets are exclusive to ATF. These are not the same jackets offered by any other vendor. They are imported, but the quality is as good or better than anything made in the USA.

$25.00

Notes:

1. Originals are made from 3 different fabrics depending on the year and manufacturer. Ours are cotton twill only. We have no other fabrics.

2. Originals vary widely in shade (color). Our material is only this one shade. We do not have a selection of shades.

In other words, if you are going to use these to replace a missing belt on an original, it is very unlikely that they will match perfectly. We do not offer custom made belts, color matching services or any other nonsense. This is as good as it gets- Period.
