Historical Notes
The Winter Combat Uniform was developed in 1941 for issue to crews of
armored vehicles. The uniform consisted of a cloth helmet, a jacket
and overalls. All three garments were made from olive drab #3 cotton
twill and lined with brown kersey wool.
Although these garments were designed for armored vehicle crews, troops
in all branches of the service endeavored to acquire them. Europe was
cold and wet, and this uniform was far superior to the fair-weather
M41 Field Jacket. The jackets were particularly popular and many were
obtained by "alternative means" by infantrymen, artillerymen
and yes, even paratroopers. Thus, it is historically correct for nearly
any member of the US Armed Forces to wear Winter Combat Uniforms or
components thereof....even if there isn't a Sherman for 100 miles in
any direction.

Winter Combat Helmet
Insulated cloth helmet designed to be worn alone or under the Tank Helmet
or the M-1 Steel helmet. These reproductions are lined with wool which
is them covered with cotton twill. That's far more comfortable than
the versions with the raw wool in your head.
Sizing: One size. I wear a 7 1/2 (60cm) and these have room to spare. They are more like a hood than a cap (or helmet). Adjusting the chin strap tightens them down.

Tanker Jackets
After nearly a year of development, we now have a new generation of Winter Combat Jackets. We have improved the quality to equal the US made coats we carried several years ago. These are now as close to an unissued original as you can get. The cotton twill shell is about 15% heavier than the previous jackets. Yes, it's the golden-khaki shade of olive drab #3 that makes khakifiends purr...
The lining is now heavy, 100% wool. Physically, these weigh about 1/2 pound more than the last run, and they are notably warmer. These are ever bit the equal of the those tankers that sell for $60-$200 more. As for the bargain products offered on the internet, there is no comparison.

Genuine Talon brand right opening zipper

100% cotton twill shell, weight, weave and color matched to original fabric samples.

No, there's nothing wrong with the pockets.
This is the 1st Model Tanker. |

Yes, we're very certain these existed.
Here's the original. |
1st Model Tanker Jacket
Early production Tanker jackets had external patch pockets. Otherwise, there is no other difference between this and the standard tankers above. These are made with the same materials as our other tankers: 100% cotton shell, 100% wool lining and Talon zippers.
"Correctness": When exactly these were discontinued and the "normal" pockets were introduced we are not sure. The change probably occurred in 1942. There is a well known series of photos of M3 Lee tanks and their crews of the 1st Armored in Tunisia taken in December of that year. The complete series shows the crews of nearly 30 tanks, and of the troops wearing tanker jackets, about half are clearly 1st Models. It's normally difficult to see the pockets in other photos, especially when the wearer has field gear on or is standing in a vehicle. As for issue, these were undoubtedly issued until supplies were exhausted so they would have been worn until the end of the War. Yes, a few paratroopers probably wore them too...

Why the snotty commentary about the pockets? Because last time we made these, we received 2-3 genius calls each week informing us "dat der is sumthin' wrong wit yer pockits". The problem was in the mirror- not with our pockets.

Winter Combat Trousers
Wool lined overalls with detachable suspenders, zipper access for the
front, fly and pockets. These are made from the same shell fabric as our tanker jackets but the lining is 55% wool / 45% cotton rather than 100% wool. Had we made them with the better lining, they would have cost more than the jackets.
