Reproduction Ike Jackets: Brand new Ike Jackets.
(Original Ike Jackets are now on the Original
US Uniforms page.) Officially known as the M1944 Wool Field
Jacket, these were originally designed as a field uniform to supplement
the lightweight M41 Field Jacket. Patterned after the British Battledress
blouse, these jackets were chosen by General Eisenhower (hence the
name "Ike Jacket") in the Spring of 1944. Production began
in May of that year. However, it was soon judged inferior to the
M1943 Field Uniform at which point it was decided to use it to replace
the Service Coat instead. Although most often considered a "walkout"
or dress jacket, the Ike Jackets saw some field use as an improvised
liner for the M1943 Field Jackets.
Fabric Fraud alert: These are not 100% wool. They are 70 wool/30 acrylic. The content labels were mis-printed. They say "30% wool/70% acrylic". This was caught only after the jackets were finished. Replacing all the lables was considered, but it was too much trouble. So, if you need 100% wool to feel properly transported back in time, wait until 2011. The new generation will be 100% (like originals) but they will also be twice the price. Yes, really.
Exclusively an ATF product: These jackets were made specifically
for us. They are not available nor related to any other repro Ike
jackets sold by any other vendor. Any problems, flaws or idiosyncrasies
associated with jackets sold elsewhere have no bearing on our uniforms.
Pattern: I have spent literally days and days
tweaking the patterns for these. An original 44R was used as a base
pattern, not a 36S. I have almost every size of original Ike jacket
up 50L. We should have no problems with customers needing to compensate
for skewed patterns, pockets in the armpits or tiny shoulders.
Sizing: Order your normal coat size. These are roomy enough
to wear a tank top and wool shirt underneath.
Taper and the All-American Physique: I have also posted the
waist sizes. If you have a prominent beer gut or are in your third
trimester, you may need to "upsize" to cover your parts.
These are not the most flattering jackets if you have a beach ball
under your shirt. This is exactly like originals!
Wear: These are appropriate for all US Army personnel from
late summer 1944 and later. Officially, a wool
(flannel) shirt and necktie was
to be worn underneath, but many troops chose to wear the more comfortable
khaki cotton shirt instead. (I think that was officially permitted
in 1949.)
No fabric samples: We do not manufacture these. They are
imported. Thus, we have no scraps to send you. These are definitely
the correct shade and cloth.
NEW Insignia Sewing Available: For more details and sewing rates go to the Insignia Sewing page.
Officer Ikes? Hopefully by Summer 2010. Price will be around $250.

"Ike" Jacket, Reproduction:
Waist-length coat worn as a replacement
for the Service Coat. Patterned from an original coat dated June 1944,
our reproductions jackets feature OD wool shell, khaki twill lining,
two pleated breast pockets, two internal pockets, spec labels, button
down cuffs, snap tab at the waist and adjustment tabs on either side.
Sizing Synopsis: I may have put too much information about taper,
chest size and so forth. Here's the simple deal: If your waist is proportionate
to your chest, just order your normal coat size. If you have a freaky
build, such as a body-builder or a gut the size of a Volkswagen, then
you may want to contact us first.Imported.

Largest Waist: This is the largest waist
the jacket can handle. The waist of the jacket may be adjusted
several inches smaller with the tabs at the sides. I wear
a 44R and a 34 waist and the 44R fits just peachy...but I have
room to pork out.
*Yes, we may be crazy. In case you don't know, originals in these
sizes are often obtainable for next to nothing at military shows
or Ebay. However, for those hardcore types who don't want to "destroy
history", we have made a few. Just in case.
