M1928 Haversack, Reproduction

Reproduction WWII haversacks. First and foremost, we do not make these. They are imported. However, these are not the paper thin/ tin hardware-using abortions sold on ebay in the $105 field gear sets. The quality is almost as good as the gear that we make in-house, but for half the price. The canvas and webbing are very good od3 color. The only thing I didn't like was the hardware, so we replaced the snap-hooks and buckles with Mil-spec quality parts. All packs are dated 1943...so you hypersensitive types don't have to fear us trying to bastardize your impression with a WWI dated pack. These include the mess tin pouch but they do not have the pack tail. (AKA "diaper").
$50.00
Size Note:
The straps on these packs are the same length as originals. We do not have any control over their manufacture, so we were unable to specify longer ones. Thus, if you are over 6' in height, or you have the girth of a "real man", these may not be long enough.

Why no "Made in USA" Haversacks? Simple. Cost. We intended to make them, made the screens and patterns, but I was stymied by the cost. To make them, we need two new machines (total about $10,000) and then the things would still have to sell for nearly $100 due to the labor time. These are pretty damned good (well worth $50). So, that's why.

How the hell does this thing go together?
The Haversack is a rather unique (bizarre) design, one that I personally suspect was conceived under the influence of serious narcotics. The link below is a reprint from the Army Field Manual:
How to Pack the Haversack

US Haversack

The difference between M1910 and m1928 Haversacks

US Haversack, Original
Standard issue pack designed at the turn of the century and used by all US Army and Marine Corps infantrymen throughout WWI and WWII. These packs are all WWII issue, mixed M1910 and M1928 Haversacks. These are in good, serviceable condition and have been repaired if necessary using original webbing and hardware. Most simply needed new hooks or a strap replaced. Any tears or missing parts were repaired or replaced. Some are lightly soiled and may have a few stains but these are intact and ready for use. All are original US Army haversacks.
Dates vary but most were made in 1918 or 1942. No date choice. (The only difference between M1910 and M1928 packs are the dates and the addition of an extra strap on the rear of the M1928's.) Many of the W.W.I dated packs have been arsenal modified to in the 1930's and 40's to M1928 configuration by the addition of the extra rear strap. A few WWII dated packs have a single rear strap. Go figure. YES, both models are 110% correct for and were worn in WWII, so don't wet your panties over the dates. Includes mess tin pouch (aka Meat Can pouch) but no tail (diaper.)

Note: By ordering the "US Haversack: $59.99" we will simply grab the next one in the box. There are both models in the box. It guarantees neither. You may get a W.W.I date, maybe a WWII date, or perhaps even one with both! (A few of the arsenal refinished packs have the earlier date scratched out and a later one stamped beside it.)

Hand picked, WWII Dated M1928 Haversacks: For those that simply can't stand to have an M1910 model pack. These are the best of the bunch, all 1940-43 dated packs. These are NOT unissued. Most have a name or serial number and some wear, but they show less use than the others. They rate very good to excellent.

Maker Markings

Bag, Canvas Field, M1936
Also known as the Musette Bag. This bag is often associated with the paratroopers, but it was general issue to a variety of units and anyone who could get one to replace the unbelievably impractical Haversacks. All hardware is original or exact reprodution.
$60.00

Used by Infantry as well as Paratroopers. Not exclusively an "Airborne" item. (5 1/2''x12'', x11''deep)

Bag, Canvas Field, M1936, Transitional
In 1943, the Quartermaster began swtiching color from od3 to od7 canvas for Army field gear. These bags are the same as above, except that the canvas is US government green canvas.Webbing and binding is still od3. All markings are now silk screened and heat cured for improved quality.
This color gear entered service late in 1943 and was used concurrently with the khaki gear. It is historically correct for "D-day" impressions, despite the protests of many uneducated nitwits.

Original WWII rucksacks w/ frame and all straps. These were issued to the 10th Mountain Division, the 1st Special Service Force and a few infantry units in Italy. Most appear to be 1943 dated. All are od3 and in good to very good ready to use condition. We have made a few small repairs to about half of them, which amounted to replacing a ball tip or patching a small hole.

Not worn by paratroopers as far as we know. Sorry!

Ditty Bags
Small general purpose draw-string bags used to carry small items inside of packs and bags. These are made form cotton HBT fabric like the originals.
Each $7.00

Holy Cow- yes, these look like originals. Originals come in several shapes and sizes- some are made by the Red Cross most are unmarked. Rest assured, we managed to locate and copy an original- it wasn't easy- they are very complex- but we pulled it off...WTF?
