Why no PO Boxes?
We ship all domestic orders with UPS. UPS doesn't deliver to PO Boxes. Despite assertions of a few geniuses that we do this to be "difficult" or "evil, mean and nasty" quite the opposite is true. Why are there so many paranoid types in this hobby? These are the same people who scream when their order fails to materialize within an hour or two of them placing it. Anyway, here's the deal on no PO Boxes:It's all about accountability, reliability and efficiency.
The post office loses 10-15% of the packages we give them. And, of those that don't go MIA, many take a month or more to resurface despite the "priority" claims. This has led to many squeals of "you frauds never shipped my order", which, especially with Paypal, means we end up giving out free stuff. As for insurance, the post wants us to PROVE that it's really lost and you can imagine how that goes. Plus, the stolen credit card crew loves the anonymity of PO Boxes.
UPS has tracking numbers and rarely takes more than 4 days to reach any US address. If a package is overdue or lost, it's quick and easy to find and or correct it.
We ship about 1,000 packages per month. UPS picks them up at our dock every day. Besides losing everything, the post is on the other side of town, takes every holiday known to man, is understaffed, and frequently mixes up the labels on different boxes. A trip to the post usually involves at least an hour standing in line and trying to explain to the guy what an APO is, how to spell "Guam", and waiting for them to deal with the 2 ton woman from the trailer park who wants her welfare check 'cause she needs a carton of smokes.
You guys want it yesterday and if it's not there by yesterday you want to know where the hell it is. Now! The post can rarely fulfill those requirements. Would you rather save $2 and have us tell you "not to worry, I'm sure it'll arrive someday", or simply receive it in 2-4 days with no drama?
Most orders are shipped the same day they are paid for. Our policies are due to 14 years experience and in the interest of being efficient and reliable. Not out of sadistic impulses.
