OTHER QUESTIONS
I saw $70 smocks on Ebay. You guys are a rip-off! Those smocks are made in China, from the wrong camo pattern (Splinter A instead of Splinter B, yes it is noticeable) and they use crappy YKK zippers instead of Ri-Ris. If you want to play paintball or Airsoft, they're fine. As for authenticity, they don't measure up. However, as many previously hyperanal FJ reenactors no longer seem to be quite as concerned with the hair splitting authenticity of years past, this will be the last run of these uniforms which we will manufacture in the US.
SS Fallschirmjäger? They wore Luftwaffe smocks. Like the ones on this page.

Washing Instructions for Luftwaffe camo smocks and jackets:
Hand wash in cold water and hang dry. No machines.
End of story.

Field Division Jacket, Splinter B
Camouflage Jacket issued to Luftwaffe Field Divisions. Sometimes worn by Fallschirmjäger personnel when supplies of jump smocks were not available. These are manufactured by us, in the correct Splinter B camo pattern. (As opposed to Splinter A on the imports.) All details of the original. Split cuffs, breast eagle, blue-gray urea buttons, internal breast pocket, and belt hook holes. Made in USA.
$125.00
Fit Warning: These jackets will shrink about 2 1/2 inches when washed. Therefore, we have oversized them accordingly. Order your "normal" size. Do not try to outsmart us and "upsize". We have already done it for you. If you "order big" you'll spend $15-20 shipping things back and forth because you didn't believe we know what we're doing when we size these things!

2nd Pattern Smock, Green
Finally, someone did the "grunmarliert" fabric correctly. Early, green jumpsmocks were made from a yarn dyed cotton twill cloth. The green was not dyed- the yarns making up the cloth are a mix of green and tan which together produce the blend. These smocks are correctly patterned and well-made. However, despite going to the trouble to make killer fabric, Mr. Sturm decided to cheap out on the hardware. Although the zippers and snaps are the correct style, they are cheap doo-doo. For a few dollars more, he could have had genuine ri-ri zippers and prym snaps. To some people, this is "who cares". But it's an asinine oversight.
Some living historians have poo-pooed the fabric as "too heathered" looking. They are wrong- it's doubtful they have an original to compare the cloth. I do and it's excellent. The only difference is that the originals are a bit stiffer. This is as good as it had gotten to date.
FAQ:
Retrofit these with ri-ri's & pryms? For about $200. We would have to disassemble the entire jacket in order to do this.
Green backed breast eagles? Not at this time.
Extra fabric or samples? None. Sorry.
Modify them to 3rd model configuration? Maybe. But it won't be cheap. If we do, we'll post them.
$90.00
Important Sewing Notes:
1. We do NOT have the "correct" green-backed eagles for these smocks and have no source for them. Which means, none are coming, so we cannot tell you when they'll be here. Probably never.
2. Due to the construction of the breast pocket, it is nearly impossible to machine sew any eagle to these. Therefore, hand sewing is required which we do not offer. In other words, we cannot put eagles on these smocks. You must do it yourself.

Fallschirmjäger Jump Smock, Type III, Splinter B
Reproduction German paratrooper smock. Yes, I patterned an original W.W.II smock. All of the idiosyncrasies (both useful and otherwise) of the WWII smocks were duplicated: Internal cuffs with elastic, flare gun holster, armpit vents, belt hook holes, drawcord, leather reinforcements for the snaps, zig-zag stitched undercollar, and breast eagle.
The Splinter "B" Luftwaffe pattern camo cloth is printed on heavy 100% cotton twill. This fabric is exclusive to ATF smocks. No one else uses it. The lining and pocketing are a mix of cotton and satin fabrics. The waist drawcord is WWII German material. Zippers are genuine Ri-Ri's with leather pull tabs. Snaps are German manufactured Prym brand. Buttons are repro "glass" Luftwaffe blue type. (Actually plastic..the glass ones break.)
Made in USA.

SIZE WARNINGS:
These are BIG: We are not unaware of how these are to be worn. We know that these are meant to be worn over a shirt and tunic. Example, a size III is designed for somebody with a 46-48 chest. That does NOT mean it measures 48". It actually measures over 56", about like an overcoat, in order to fit over a shirt, wool tunic, be roomy and be able to accommodate healthy waistlines and such. Order your normal size! You do not need to compensate for our assumed ignorance. If you have a 38 chest, order a M...not an XL. Don't be a meathead.
Length:
Yes, these are plenty long enough. If we make them any longer, they will be greatcoats. Look at original photos...they range from knee length to mid-thigh. Yes, unsnapped.
Shrinkage:
If washed and dried hot, these will shrink about 3 1/2 inches in length and 1-2 inches in circumference. I designed the pattern with the assumption that most people will toss it in the washer and dryer. Thus, when new, these smocks are equivalent to a "long" size. After washing, they are a "regular".
Washing Instructions: Here's the deal. The fabric is washable, but the leather tabs on the zippers and the snaps in general are not very happy being slammed around in washers and dryers. (The heat from a dryer will fossilize and shrivel the tabs)
Thus, hand wash cold and hang dry is the best option.

Fallschirmjäger Jump Smock, Type II, Step-in
Reproduction of the second model paratrooper smock. There are several variations of the Type II, and this is the later "factory" variation. Early production Type II's had no pockets, or odd numbers of pockets. Our pattern is that which was made in 1940 which saw widespread use on Crete. This is the most common model smock worn during the early and mid-War period. These smocks were still common and widely issued in 1944. Type II smocks were originally made in green, with Splinter B pattern fabric being phased in during production in 1940. Our smocks were patterned from an original (yes, I own a Type II) and we didn't leave anything out. Internal cuffs with elastic, vented armpits, belt hook holes, leather reinforcements for the snaps, heavy duty genuine Ri-Ri brand zippers on the pockets, side access panels and "pee-port", Prym snaps and zig-zag stitched breast eagle.
The Splinter "B" Luftwaffe pattern camo cloth (not Splinter A like the Chinese smocks) is printed on heavy 100% cotton twill.
We do not have any green material, only Splinter B. Thus, no green smocks will be forthcoming.

Made in USA.

$250.00
Q: Why are these more expensive????
A: Simple. Twice the zippers (@ $7.70 each) and 50% more labor time.

Fallschirmjäger Jump Smock, Type III, Tan and Water
Good quality, imported Tan and Water pattern camo jumpsmock. First and foremost, these are not made by us. They are imported and lack the Ri-ri zippers and Prym snaps of our US made smocks. However, the colors are excellent, they are the correct WWII Tan and Water Camo (not BGS) and the quality is quite good. The only thing I don't like is that the interior (the backside of the camo fabric) is white.
Otherwise, they are decent and should make most "authenticity officers" happy.
Insignia: These have no breast eagles. We do not have "matching" eagles on Tan and Water camo. However, my unissued original Tan and Water smock has a breast eagle on Splinter Camo. Yes, it's right, they did it that way, it's not a mistake, despite what the Grand Poopas, even the ones who have written books, might blather.
